My Position: Classroom-First Investment and Servant Leadership

​

As a former PTA mom, local PTA president, and statewide vice president who actively advocated for the enactment of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, I am deeply invested in the success of our school system.

​

Education is the foundation of our county’s future, but true progress requires placing resources directly where they belong: in the classroom with our students and teachers.

​

Fixing PGCPS requires stopping wasteful administrative spending, addressing top-heavy operations, and supporting our educators with competitive compensation, manageable schedules, and robust classroom support.

​

Teachers have also shared concerns about system failures, including:

​

• Unenforced and inconsistent attendance and discipline policies.

• Delayed test results that postpone the identification of student performance levels and impair educators’ ability to adjust instruction.

• Pressure to prioritize test performance over genuine mastery of course content.

• A County-provided curriculum and academic schedule that do not give teachers or students sufficient time for retention and mastery.

• Significant salary disparities between PGCPS and surrounding school districts and jurisdictions.

Of the 130,629 students enrolled during the 2025-2026 academic year, 38.9% of PGCPS students are proficient in English Language Arts, 13.7% are proficient in mathematics, and 11.1% are proficient at the Algebra I level.

​

It is imperative that we motivate, recruit, compensate, and support educators so they can help our students improve. That will require creative strategies, including greater parent involvement and selfless leadership committed to directing more resources toward students, educators, and classrooms. And it starts at the top.

According to official data released by the Maryland State Department of Education, PGCPS’s on-time high school graduation rate was 78.99% in 2025, below the statewide rate of 86.4%. Prince George’s County must do better.

My Commitment:

• Focus on Fundamentals: Pivot our academic support toward core literacy and math proficiency, giving teachers the time and resources required for student mastery rather than high-stakes test preparation.

​

• Executive Collaboration & Accountability: Use the County Executive’s platform to support our Board of Education, ensure strict compliance with State standards, and demand strong returns on taxpayer investments in executive leadership.

​

• Holistic Student Support: Expand access to high-quality early childhood care, mental health resources, and nutritional support to ensure every child enters the classroom ready to learn.
